Bintje Jansma (1888-1976) was one of the pupils of Kornelis Lieuwes de Vries,
a head master with a great interest in the cultivation of potato varieties.
The school yard was his trial field. His hobby resulted in about 125 useful
potato varieties. All those varieties needed a name. One of them was named
after Bintje, one of his most studious pupils. The bintje potato was introduced
in 1910 and turned out to be his most successful variety.
Pumping
The pumping process can be divided in
the suction action and the pumping action. During the suction action oil
is supplied at a low pressure with the help of a small 0.2-liter accumulator.
This accumulator is needed to avoid cavitation in the system. The supply
pressure is about 5 bar. The oil passes the suction valves. These are
simple non-return valves, designed to be positioned close to the hydraulic
cylinder, minimizing the dead volume in this cylinder.
On the other side of the hydraulic pump cylinder the oil passes for the
second time through the non-return valves, which direct the oil towards
the high-pressure side of the system. The Chiron delivers oil to the high-pressure
side both during the compression stroke and during the expansion stroke.
