Sometimes patronizingly called ‘lady Edisons’, there are also innovative women inventors, like Margaret Knight of Boston (1838-1914). She was credited with about 90 inventions and 22 patents. Her patents covered textile and shoe-making machinery, domestic devices, and even a "sleeve-valve" automobile engine. Knight's greatest success, however, was the first machine to make the square-bottomed paper bags that are still used in grocery stores today.

The combustion part of the Chiron is a two-stroke naturally aspired diesel engine with a simple port controlled scavenge process (loop scavenging). The backside of the combustion piston is used as the scavenge pump. This results in a compact and cost-effective construction. |
