Guiseppe Borsalino and his brother Lazzaro started a business in Alessandria, Italy, in 1857. After World War II, business declined, due to changing fashion. One group remained faithful to the Borsalino hats: orthodox Jews from Antwerp, Brooklyn and Israel, ordering about 100,000 hats every year. The borsalino classic felt, designed by Guiseppe, covered many famous heads such as Guiseppe Verdi’s, Al Capone’s, Humphrey Bogart’s, and, more recently, Michael Gorbatsjov’s.
