Ferdinand Graf von Zeppelin (1838-1917) was a German military officer, who between two Prussian wars served in the Union army during the US civil war. He developed the lighter-than-air vehicle that became known as the zeppelin. In 1910 one of his airships provided the first commercial air service for passengers. Safety problems that led to accidents, including the crash of the Hindenburg in 1937, brought on the end of the zeppelin's popularity. However they fly again today.

Low cost | ||||||||||||||||||
At first sight it may seem that the
FC concept will result in a cost increase, given the high number of parts.
However, quite the opposite is true. The cups can be manufactured using
low cost metal forming techniques like deep drawing. Many of the other
parts of the design can be manufactured with the same or similar non-swarf
technologies like forging and fine blanking. Their precision and surface
quality is excellent for hydraulic parts. In the automotive world these
production methods are already widely used, including for hydraulic components
like hydraulic valve lash adjusters. |
