Étienne de Silhouette (1709-1767), was a French finance minister. De Silhouette was said to make shadow profile portraits during long meetings that were therefore called ‘silhouettes’. After his retirement, he completely devoted himself to this artform. Others claims the shadow portraits were named after the statesman because he would raise such high taxes that his victims felt reduced to a shadow.

The HyDrid can realise a considerable reduction of the fuel consumption when applied in a hydraulic forklift truck, not only by regenerative braking, but also by recuperating energy of the lifting function. Studies that Innas performed together with the Fluid Power Institute IFAS of Aachen Technical University show that regenerative braking alone results in a fuel reduction of 50% or more, due to the frequent start/stop operation of a lift truck. Battery powered forklifts can also benefit from the HyDrid system. In an electro-hydrid forklift truck, the hydraulic powertrain will process the high power peaks associated with recuperation and acceleration. The battery takes care of the much lower average power demand. In this way, battery life can be improved and the operation time between charges is increased.
